[ There's a rustle that sounds like paper, and then John clears his throat. ]

You've reached Dr. John Watson. I'm probably busy. If you leave a message I'll get back to you as soon as I can. Thank you.

[So he has been here before. He debates for a moment and then asks:]

Do you know if any of his former colleagues are still here? People who might have associated with him and would like to take up again, even if his memories are ... refreshed?

How familiar are you with this Sebastian Moran?

The Sebastian Moran I am familiar with is a fan of the Arsenal. Additionally, he is one of Moriarty's colleagues. A trusted individual, though he eventually grew ... tired of their relationship, for one reason or another.

[That's a vague way of putting it, but he assumes that John will pick up some of the implications in what he's saying: Moran no longer wished to work for her. It grew inconvenient.]

Any.

[The phrasing stands out to Sherlock.]

Fascinating, and a point of interest. This Moran is aware of Holmes and Watson and is antagonistic toward them—us—but he's also not very subtle. It leads one to wonder.

Does the Moriarty from your world—[he specifically matches John's phrasing on purpose]—seek out talented sociopaths to do his bidding for him?

Ah.

So he's very good at handling all ... operations on his own. No lackeys.

Would you call him methodical or capricious?

Very well. He aims to not have an established pattern, in a way.

But even in that, we have figured him out. How pathetic.

I'd rather be confident in the matter.

But I will need to track how he hopes to be absolutely "random" in his methods.

I'll gladly welcome your assistance. You have been here for some time, after all; I believe I would be remiss to turn my back on your helping hand.

[Ah, there it is, there is exactly what he has been seeking. He doesn't remark upon it, but realization marks Sherlock's features.]

Have a good day, Watson.
